Having a smart calling card is always a good idea, whether you do a lot of networking or not. You never know who you’re going to meet, after all, and having a well-designed card to hand with your contact details could prove highly beneficial.
But it can be difficult to come up with the right kind of card to suit your business and it’s something you should give a fair amount of thought before you make any final decisions and spend any money.
When it comes to colour, it’s always advisable to make sure that your branding is consistent, no matter where it appears. But in general terms, some colours work better on business cards than others - depending on what industry you’re in.
You’ll often see cards in plain white and while you may want to have something very jazzy, never underestimate the power of a crisp white card. They’re also easy to make changes to, so if you want to appeal to a different audience, a few simple tweaks could make all the difference.
Think about the kind of sector you’re in, as this will help you work out what colours would suit your card the best. If you’re in the beauty and wellness sector, for example, white would work well, but so would pale pink. Or if you’re in the fitness industry, what about choosing orange? This is often associated with energy and vitality, so could be perfect for your card.
Greys and silvers are both luxurious and classic, while blues denote honesty and trustworthiness… but you may want to steer clear of red, a colour of card you don’t often see, perhaps because it can be quite an aggressive colour.
